Between Fibers

Between Fibers was created to solve a problem: the increasing amount of consumer textile waste that is discarded into overflowing landfills. Consumers have a hard time recycling unwanted, worn, damaged, or excess materials from clothing items or craft projects because breaking down textiles and creating new materials has its share of expensive problems. Instead of breaking down fabric or other textile materials to be recycled, Between Fibers redirects the original use of reclaimed textile scraps to create zero waste, handmade designs and do-it-yourself crafting kits. The donation of materials and promotion of purchasing kits encourages individuals to take the first step through the door of sustainability by reducing the amount of textile waste that is discarded.

For individuals to take the first step toward sustainability, they need to be informed through marketing. The poster series features hand-rendered typography designs of quotes that intrigue consumers to read further and get a glimpse of the donation aspect of the company. Viewers are encouraged to donate textile materials rather than trash them. Many may think that a handful of fabric will not be a lot in the grand scheme, but every thread counts. If every person donated a small amount of fabric, it would have a huge impact. The donation dropbox has an engaging and simple interface that encourages donation by earning coupons and rewards that can be applied to other items. The craft kits are created with textures from various textile materials to enhance the handmade design of the products and encourage a more interactive way to take part in the mission without donating materials. The hand-written notes and pattern books contained in the packages aid in the consumers understanding of the craft and give more relatability to the brand. The designs for social media were meant to encourage followers to purchase the craft kits through showing statistics of textile donation and the problem of textile waste.
