When playing sports, there is a question that always seems to rise up into debate. Do you make the Safe Play and wear more gear to add more protection while playing, or do you make that Shift and wear less gear to allow you to play naturally and freely? In my project, Safe Play, I want to introduce a way where athletes or even non-athletes can choose whether or not they would wear more padding or gear while playing, or if they feel they should be required to participate in sports. From many years of playing competitive hockey, my inspiration for this project came from recent events that have taken place in this sport. While many Safe Play displays both sides to the argument, showing ways on how wearing more protective gear gives you a chance at a longer-lasting playing career, meanwhile playing with less gives you more mobility and allows you to play your best. In the poster series, reasons for both sides of 'Why Wear More' and 'Why Wear Less' are to encourage you to pick a side, but also make you think on your choice when comparing both sides. Another great piece I introduced with Safe Play is the 'Equipment Try-On Station' that gives the audience the chance to try on protective gear and allow them to vote if they think they could play and compete while wearing it, or it is too uncomfortable and could hinder their performance. The question is up to you. Is safety or performance the way to go?
