Socialite

Socialite is an organization of women who participate in geek and gamer culture. This is a broad topic covering anywhere from table top rpg players to sci-fi fans to hard-core gamers. While the statistic of a  “nerdy hobby” is vague and difficult to define, we all know a nerdy hobby when we see one. In geek culture, 82% of women experience gender based harassment while trying to make connections and participate in their hobbies. Accused of faking and lying, as well as challenges to “prove yourself,” these hobbies that are meant to recharge and uplift can become sources of stress and anxiety for many women.

We believe hobbies should be hobbies, and fun should be fun, and nobody should be asked to prove they enjoy the things they say they do. So Socialite functions as a type of club, where women meet with their local branch once monthly to connect, have fun, and de-stress from the burdens of everyday life. We’re here to make sure everyone feels welcome and okay to be themselves free of stress shame and guilt, and are creating a new space where women* can be themselves where they feel the most comfortable.

We believe that gender is not ours to define, and do not want to alienate individuals who may be transgendered or are gender non-conforming. If you feel you can benefit from this space, we believe in a loving and tolerant environment. Gender and determinations are solely  up to the individual.
